Minneapolis – Francisco Lindor announced Wednesday that he has resorted to the title of “Captain”, even if it is for a team other than the Mets.

The Star Campocorto wrote on Instagram that he has again been appointed captain of the Puerto Rico team, repeating his role in 2023, at the World Baseball Classic next year.

“Honor to be captain of the Puerto Rico team for the World Baseball Classic of 2026, pringle my borinquén!” Lindor published.

Lindor has participated in each of the last two WBC for Puerto Rico.

In his first appearance in the event, in 2017, MVP of Group D was appointed, in which Puerto Rico was 3-0. He was named for the All-WBC team after the defeat of Puerto Rico against the United States in the championship game.

The last appearance of the Puerto Rico team in the WBC, before the 2023 season, a direct effect on the Mets, which lost closer to Edwin Díaz during the year due to a torn rotary tendon.

Díaz suffered the injury during a celebration in the field in Miami, after Puerto Rico beat the Dominican Republic.

The Mets Haven had an official team captain since the retirement of David Wright in 2018, but the name of Lindor has often emerged as a natural adjustment if the club decides to grant the title to a player.

“I feel that I am one of the team’s leaders,” Lindor said in spring training. “There are many leaders there. The Captain Francisco Lindor named Team Puerto Rico captain for 2026 WBC It is something that does not depend on me to decide. If it happens, fantastic, it would be an honor, it would be a privilege. It is something that I would never take for granted, something that would put me next to the greats of this organization. “
