There is no soup for you!
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has issued a public health alert for a variety of packaged soup products.
The USDA Food Security and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued the warning for 13 products that may be contaminated with a foreign material, specifically wood, in coriander.
The problem was discovered when the FSIS was notified that the coriander, an ingredient regulated by the Food and Medicines Administration, was removed from foreign material.
The affected products are mostly frozen soups and food bowls under the brands of Campbell, Molly’s Kitchen, healthy request, Sysco, Vital Pursuit and market prepared by Meijer.
A public health alert is different from a retirement. Withdrawals involve a company by taking out their product from the shelves about security concerns. Public health alerts are issued to “inform the public about potential health risks in cases where a retirement cannot be recommended,” according to the USDA.
Although the FSIS has not issued a retirement for thesis products, the agency is concerned that they can be in institutional refrigerators or freezers of consumers and warned customs that do not consume or serve them on the subject.
Foods were distributed to institutional and retail locations in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.
However, the FSIS expects more products to be affected, which could cause impacts throughout the country.
The USDA plans to update consumers when there is more information available. People can continually consult the USDA website to obtain additional products included in the retirement.
At this time, most affected products have the establishment numbers: P-17644, 17644b or CA-711. Tag images are available on the FSIS website.
