Trump extends federal hiring freeze through July 15

President Trump issued a memorandum on Thursday that he held a break about the hiring of new federal workers until July 15.

“No federal civil post that is currently vacant can be full, and a new position cannot be created, except that the opposite occurs in this memorandum or required by the applicable law,” Trump wrote in the memorandum to the heads of government.

The president implemented the freezing of hiring on January 20, the first day of his second term, as part of an effort to cut the size of the government and ensure that federal agencies implement a “merit contracting plan”.

Freezing does not apply to military personnel or positions related to the application of immigration, national security and public safety.

The White House is also exempt from the hiring break.

“It is forbidden to hire outside the federal government to avoid the intention of this memorandum,” Trump warned.

The president also asked agency chiefs to consider “efficient use of personnel and existing funds to improve public services and the delivery of these services” pause.

“Consequently, this memorandum does not prohibit reallocation or reallocations to meet the highest priority needs; maintain essential services; and protect national security, national security and public safety,” Memorando continued.

The White House described the freezing extension as a “critical step to reduce the federal government and ensure that taxpayers’ dollars are used efficiently,” noting that in the final two years of the Biden administration, the government government.

“President Trump is committed to gathering this trend by prioritizing the growth of private sector employment and reducing federal workforce to focus on essential functions,” said the White House.

In the months after the initial pause, the Trump administration has moved to fire thousands of government employees in several federal agencies, including the Department of Education, United States Agency for International Development, the Department of Defense.
