Pa. judge Sonya McKnight convicted of shooting sleeping boyfriend in the head

A judge of Pennsylvania accused of shooting his ex -boyfriend in his head while he can spend decades after bars, as was declared guilty of attempted homicide and aggravated charges on Wednesday.

After two hours of deliberations, a jury condemned Sonya M. McNight, a masterful judge in Dauphin County, for both positions that faced: a charge of murder attempt and a position of aggravated assault.

McKnight, 58, who has played the elected role since 2016, was worse tasks after the first instance judge rejected a defense request to be released.

The shooting took place in February 2024 after Mcinnight’s then boyfriend, Michael McCoy, 54, tried to finish his one -year relationship and asked him to move from his house.

McNight supposedly agreed to go, but later that night, McCoy was awakened by a “massive headache” and was blind. Duration The trial, testified that he could not see after the shooting, but that McKnight was the only one other person at home at that time.

Police said McKnight called 911 and that the duration of the call that “he could not explain what happened and said he was sleeping and heard him scream.”

Emergency responders took McCoy to the hospital, where they found a gunshot wound in the right temple that came out of their left temple.

The authorities say that the extent of the damage left McCoy Ciego in his right eye.

A weapon recorded in McKnight was also found on the scene and it was discovered that he had shooting residues in his hands only one hour after the shooting. Both McCoy and McKnight told the police that they are the only ones at home at the time of the shooting and McCoy told the police that he did not shoot himself.

She will be sentenced on May 28. Dauphin County Prison

McKnight had a previous altercation with her separate husband, Enoch McNight, in 2019, which lasted, which shot her in the groin after saving him to help her move furniture.

The couple married in 2014, but had requested divorce two years later. However, the divorce was still pending at the time of the shooting, which was declared in self -defense, since the couple was in the midst of a domestic dispute.

For the most recent shooting, he faces up to 60 years in prison.

She is scheduled to be sentenced on May 28.
