The homeless New Yorkers and now migrants to jump into the city are getting a free travel ticket from the Big Apple.
The city homeless service department has signed a new $ 250,000 contract with the Alpha International Travel Corp. reservation agent, to relocate some of the almost 100,000 refuge residents for homeless people in the United States. Migrants seeking to leave New York City will also be accommodated, as part of a renewal of the DHS travel program.
“This program will also help with the relocation of new arrivals,” said a spokesman for Mayor Eric Adams. “The rationalization of thesis operations will allow us to continue closing more emergency shelters and help migrants abandon our system to take the next step on their trip.”

The city officials emphasized that they are not transferring random migrants to other cities such as Texas without any prior planning.
The program began for the first time for the residents of shelters for homeless people in 2007, under Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
It is considered an investment that is worth it, which costs the city hundreds of dollars per ticket instead of tens of thousands to keep someone in the refuge system.
The DHS paid 1,881 unidirectional tickets to move refuge residents for homeless people out of Gotham in 2024.
“The reconnection programs of New York City provide the reflexive relocation of traditional refuge clients and clients to be closer to friends and family or other opportunities or community ties in a measured and coordinated manner with the expressed interest of the clients we serve, not use these people as a political trick,” said a city official.
Traditional people and migrants or migrants or migrants must have housing options or a viable place to live, a strong family or other connection with destiny or work, to be eligible.
