The WNBA draft was a long waiting night for freedom.
But when the time came, with the almost wrapped draft, General Manager Jonathan Kolb chose a player who believes it could be a good future perspective for freedom.
The Liberty chose the French center Adeta Kane with the final team of this year’s draft on Monday.
Kane, General Team No. 38, is a qualified center of 6 feet 3, whom freedom wrote and hid to allow him to continue playing professionally in France while developing.
“As an organization, we are proud to adopt the global nature of the game and we are proactive to gather a deep group of international talent,” said General Manager Jonathan Kolb in a statement. “We had a unique opportunity tonight to select Adeta Kane, a talented young player from a strong program in France, who will continue to develop abroad over the next few years with our support from afar.”
Kane, 20, currently plays for Landerneau Brittany Basket at the Boulangère Wonderligue of France and averages 4.9 points, four rebounds, 1.2 blockages and 1.1 assists in 22 games this season.
It also previously represented France at the Eurobasket Fiber Fiba U20 2024 FIBA.
The Liberty changed its general selection number 7 to Connecticut Sun for Natasha Cloud last month, a movement that made sense taking into account that New York is in winning mode.
The WNBA training camps will open on April 27.
The defense of the title of Liberty is scheduled to begin on May 17 when they organize Las Vegas.
