Double amputee died with pending Hayward murder charge

Oakland – A man died last year before a case of murder could be resolved against him, as shown in the judicial records.

Last year, prosecutors formally dismissed the case of murder against Hayward’s resident, Gary García, citing his death. Garcia had accused of fatally stabbing the analo of 56 years, Mariano García, on March 21, 2024 inside his apartment in block 25000 of Cypress Avenue.

Gary García fled the house but surrendered to the police shortly after. In June 2024, a judge released him in a hospital, citing his sick health. Three months later, prosecutors arrived in court, declared that he had died and expelled the case.

Both legs of Garcia had been amputated, and his death seems to be due to natural causes, authorities said.

At the time of Garcia’s trial, he told the Police that he had defended himself.
