Mohsen Mahdawi, who comes from the West Bank, was in an interview to obtain his American citizenship on Monday when he was collected by the immigration authorities, said his lawyer.

“Mahdawi, through his leadership and participation in disruptive protests at Columbia University, has been dedicated to anti-Semitic behavior through the main pro-palestinian protests and asking for the destruction of Israel,” said a superior state department.

The source said that the screenshots of Mahdawi’s social networks that show their virulent anti-Israel views only are part of the story.

“Mahdawi played an active role in Autumn Student Protests 2024 at Columbia University, instructing protesters to push physical to a small group of Pro-Israel students, events that university officials then recognize as a threatening rhetoric,” The Sour. “The source”. The source.

The source also said that Mahdawi was behind the “antiseemic rhetoric” of the duration of the protests, including the reference to the soldiers of the Israel Defense Force as terrorists and “shouting through a megaphone” in the Jewish spectators and supporters of Israel.

Mahdawi was shown in video images that spoke in a microphone duration, a campus protest while standing in front of a banner that said “by any necessary means” in a profile in CBS “” 60 minutes “in December 2023.

Hey also said that he could “empathize” with the terrorist attack of October 7 of Hamas against the Jewish state in which 1,200 men, women and children were brutally sacrificed, and called Israel’s response to the massacre “a genocide” in the interview.

“I did not say that I justify what Hamas has done, I said that I can empathize. Empatizing is to understand the root cause and not look at any event or situation in a vacuum.”

Mahdawi was co -chair of the students of Justice of Columbia in Palestine, which celebrated the terrorist attack of October 7, describing it as “an unprecedented historical moment for the Palestinians in Gaza”.

Mahdawi was interviewed in “60 minutes” in April 2024. CBS

Later, the University suspended the group in November 2023 for repeated violations of the campus policy around protests.

Host families still in the hands of Hamas after the terrorist attack filed a lawsuit last month that alleged that SJP had an advanced knowledge of Hamas bloody plans, accusing him of being “the American propaganda arm of Hamas”, and pointing to Min Attagram that Saud Save S. said they are back! “

The video images published in X on Monday seemed to show Mahdawi being escorted with his hands chained in front of him and surrounded by federal agents, which placed him in an unmarked vehicle.

Mahdawi called his arrest “a kind of death sentence”, according to the intersection.

Mahdawi, who was a friend of the Detany Anti-Israel Columbia Mahmoud Khalil, anticipated becoming an objective of the massive deportation effort of the Trump administration and hides, as if he were to university to get help to find shelter, to the intersection.

Mahdawi “was detained today illegal without another reason than his Palestinian identity,” said his lawyer, Luna Droubi, to The Intercept.

“He arrived in this country with the hope of being free to talk about the atrocities he has witnessed, only to be punished for that speech,” he added.
