Augusta, VE. -Tod couples presented an age without age at the Opening Round on Thursday in Augusta National, registering a first pair 71.

The 1992 Masters champion, at 65 and playing in his 40th Masters, is not age, becoming the second oldest player to break the pair in a masters round.

“It’s a legend in the game and a legend here,” said Taylor Pendrith, one of the couples “playing the teammates.” I learned some things from him, surely, just seeing him play. He has played many, many times. He played Awesome-1 under it is a fantastic round. He played really stable. He simply lost me.

“It’s his 40th time playing teachers. People love him. They show great respect for him. They are all encouraging him. It was great to play with him in my first and 40 years.”

Thursday was the 141st competitive round in the race in Augusta for Couples, who made the cut in 31 of the 39 teachers he has played.

“I’ve been saying it for 40 years, I love the course,” said couples. “I played quite well. I hit most of the streets and drove it well.”

The highlight of his round was the torque 4 that hid for Eagle since 186 yards with a rescue of 6 to go from 1 to 1 to 1 low.

“When I hit him, he was beaten very, very good, and only carried that crest where Harris [English’s] I didn’t do it and turned again, “he said.” I thought I had enough to get there and then [the patrons] He went crazy. It was fun. I don’t know if I have ever had an eagle in par 4 here. ”

When couples told couples that their friend and former golf teammate at the University of Houston, the announcer of CBS, Jim Nantz, predicted that he was going to have a good week, the couples joked: “It has been since I turned 50 and hey [was] Correct several times. ”

Bernhard Long, a masters winner twice playing for the 41st and last time, fired a 73 to 67 years at age 67.

When the couples were asked how long he plans to compete in the Masters, he made it clear that he would stop if he felt he was embarrasing himself.

“I really should use the world” clown ” [but] I don’t want to be a clown, “couples said overcoming their welcome to compete in the tournament.” But I can play golf. I can play here. If the weather is like that and not hard, as long as you don’t do crazy things, I can shoot 73 or 74 or 75. That is not shameful at all.

“If you can come with 70 or 71 tomorrow, the goal for me is to make the cut. When I had 50, 51, I really thought I could do it really well and did a lot of time. Today. [was] A hell or a round. I am exhausted. ”

Couples said “he can’t answer” when he thinks he will hang it in Augusta.

“It will be when I know that I can’t take off no. 1 and do really good things and shoot a good score,” he said. “It’s not how many years I have, because I will tell you that today I arrived at some units that were quite good. I will not even guess. It could be next year. It could be 70.”
