The rocker has fought with substance abuse problems in the past and suffered a relapse of drugs almost three years after being sober for a decade.
His band revealed that Steven had “voluntarily” entered a rehabilitation installation in May 2022.
“As many of you know, our promised brother Steven has worked on his sobriety for many years,” said the group, including Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer and Brad Whitford, at that time.
“After foot surgery to prepare for the stage and the need for the duration of pain management, he has recently fond of and voluntarily entered a treatment program to concentrate on health and recovery,” said the announcement of the band.
The relapse occurred when Aerosmith was ready to relaunch his residence in Las Vegas, forcing the band to cancel the first set of dates in June and July 2022.
Steven had previously discussed its drug use.
In 2019, he told Haut Living that, while drugs, he gave him a “crudeness”, they also inhibited his “greatness.”
“All the magic that although it worked when you were high when you get sober,” the singer shared only months before his relapse. “You realize that I was always there, and your fear disappears.”
In September 2023, Steven suffered damage to the vocal rope that “led to subsequent bleeding” in a Aerosmith show in New York.
Once again, the band was forced to postpone their peace: the farewell tour after learning about its leader’s injury was “more serious than he initially thought.”
Steven never recovered from the lesion of the vocal rope, which pushed Aerosmith to withdraw from tours in August 2024.
