WNBA finally gives in to longtime fan request amidst growing popularity

The fans spoke and the WNBA listed. After years of preseason games that cannot be seen so that the public see unless you were there in person, the WNBA announced that it will transmit the 15 preseason games this year.

This has been a problem amid the growing popularity of WNBA. In 2023, when Chicago Sky and Minnesota Lynx came to Toronto to play a preseason game, it was only broadcast in Canada. Fans in the United States could not even see the game in the WNBA League pass application.

Last season, when Caitlin Clark made his unofficial debut for Indiana fever in the preseason, WNBA was not yet causing the games to be available on television or broadcast. Fans were to put on the first Clark games not to be transmitted, especially their tickets for them quickly exhausted.

The NBA preseason games are broadcast on television, and it is a good way for fans to become familiar with Neower team members before the season official begins. With fans’ favorites such as Clark, Paige Bueckers, Angel Reese and more received in the League every year, WNBA has been losing the opportunity to announce. People don’t care if it’s preseason; They want to see the thesis women play.

A fan has just been to the next level to try so much last year, broadcasting a game of Minnesota Lynx vs. live. Chicago Sky in X from your cell phone. The transmission obtained a total of 2 million impressions and almost 175,000 live spectators through the game, despite being the view of fans from the stands. People wanted to see Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso in Action, although the games did not count for their team’s record.

In addition, a walk through the original Tweet comments of the transmission is entertaining to look:

The League has now decided to meet that demand in 2025, announcing on Monday that the 15 preseason games will be cultivated so that fans see at home. WNBA League Pass will transmit 14 of the 15, and the 15 will be transmitted in ESPN. Ion and NBA TV will also have selected preseason games available on their networks.

Indiana Fever’s exhibition against the play of the National Team of Brazil on May 4 will be broadcast on ESPN, since Caitlin Clark makes his return to Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa. Wnba League Pass is also bringing its promotion last year, transmitting some free games in the Pass League to start the season. All preseason games are included in this promotion.
