NBA admits refs missed critical foul in Pistons’ last-second loss to Knicks

The referees lost Tim Hardaway Jr. De Detroit, Josh Hart, from New York, in the final play of the confrontation of the Pistons playoffs against the Knicks on Sunday, the NBA recognized shortly after game 4 that ended.

It was a loss call: Detroit lost the game by a single point, 94-93. Hardaway’s 3 -point shooting officer arrived with 0.3 seconds. If the fault had been called, it would have gone to the foul line due to three free throws that could have given Detroit advantage.

“Duration live, it was judged that Josh Hart made a legal defensive play,” said crew manager David Guthrie, a pool reporter after the game. “After the review after the game, we observe that the heart makes body contact that is more than marginal for Hardeway Jr. and should have called a fault.”

New York victory gave the Knicks a 3-1 advantage in the series.

“Did I contact him? Yes, I contacted him,” Hart said. “Was it legal? I don’t know. We will let the two -minute report say that.”

The NBA presents a review of all calls in the last two minutes of games determined by three points or less, with those reports released the day after the game. But in this case, with a report from the pool requested, the NBA caused Guthrie to talk to a journalist and explain what happened.

Detroit argued that it has not been available after time. The piston coach, JB BickerStaff, was clearly angry and approached the officiating crew on the floor shortly after the final shot, but did not have a mechanism to challenge the call. One, the Pistons had used their challenge before in the game and two, even if BickerStaff still had the challenge that mattered, technically, no call was made, so I could not have challenged anyway.

“There is contact in Tim Hardaway’s jumping,” said BickerStaff. “I don’t know another way. There is contact in his jumping shot. The guy leaves his feet, he is at the mercy of Timmy. I repeat, there is contact in his jumping shot.”

The Pistons had the ball with 11.1 seconds, below one. Code Cunningham lost a jump of jump with 7.4 seconds soaking and, after a fight, the ball ended in Hardeway’s hands in the left corner.

Cunningham had 25 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds for his first Triple-Doble of Playoffs and the third in the history of the franchise, but lost two shots and turned at the last 1:07.

Karl-Anthony Towns made a triple triple with 46.6 seconds and ended with 27 points for the Knicks. Jalen Brunson had 32 points.

The Pistons have lost nine playoff games at home since 2008, matching an NBA record established by Philadelphia from 1968 to 1971.
