Phone game lowers social anxiety by shifting focus on to the positive

Starstarter is a game that gives points when players avoid angry faces and focus on the smiling

Arcade therapy

People with social anxiety can find relief in a smartphone game that helps to remove their attention from intimidating or negative signals towards positive ones. The researchers found that playing significant social anxiety scores several times a week compared to a simulated version.

Letters, games based on games like this can fill the big gaps in public access to mental health treatments, says Tracy Dennis-Tiwary at New York City University.
