His guide about what Trump’s second term means for Washington, Business and the World
The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, announced that he will not participate in the Peace Conversations in Türkiye between Moscow and kyiv on Thursday, despite the pleasure of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to attend.
White House officials said that the president of the United States, Donald Trump, will also go to Turkey for conversations after Putin announced the list of Russian assistants, all of whom are relatively low level officials.
Putin proposed for the first time celebrating direct conversations between Russia and Ukraine, “without previous conditions”, on Sunday, in response to a demand by the Western allies of Ukraine for a high fire of 30 days in the war. He said the negotiations would be heroes on Thursday in Türkiye.
The Russian president said that his purpose would be “to eliminate the fundamental causes of the conflict and move trailers creating a long -term lasting peace in a historical perspective.”
Zenskyy said he was prepared to attend, but only if Putin also appeared, because everything in Russia depends “on the Russian leader.
“So I said that [Thursday] I will go to Türkiye and I am ready to meet Putin, and the end of the war was through direct conversations with him, “Zenskyy told journalists in Kyiv before Putin’s announcement.
However, from the beginning there were considerable doubts in kyiv and other European capitals that the Russian leader really appeared, he only thought that the idea of the conversations was his.
Trump’s initial initial acclaimed Putin’s initiative, describing it as a “great day potentially for Russia and Ukraine.” The president, who is currently in an official visit to the states of the Gulf Rico in Petroleum, also said that he could deviate to Türkiye to attend the conversations.
The reaction of some of his senior officials was more cautious. Keith Kellogg, the United States special envoy to Ukraine, said there should be a stop the fire before peace negotiations.
White House officials announced earlier this week that Kellogg, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, would also travel to participate in the conversations.
A person familiar with Witkoff’s plans said he was still intended to go to Türkiye on Friday, despite Putin’s absence. Rubio currently attends an informal meeting of foreign ministers of NATO in the coastal city of the southern Türkiye of Antalya.
Kremlin officials in recent days refused to answer questions about whether Putin would attend in person or who would be in the delegation.
The previous meetings of Russia-United States in Saudi Arabia were led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov, and other main diplomats. However, for Turkish conversations, Putin said he is sending a delegation led by his advisor, former Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky.
The movement indicates that Russia is interested in the conversations to resume where they left him in the spring of 2022, just a week after Moscow launched its large -scale invasion of its neighbor. Medinsky taught leadership in those conversations, Altegh, the conversations broke into the acrimony and the fight continued.
Medinsky will join the Vice Minister of Defense Alexander FO, another member of the 2022 delegation, as well as the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Mikhail Galuzin and Igor Kostyukov, director of the main intelligence direction of the Gru, military.
“Moscow presents its new initiative as ‘Nothing new to see here; after a long break, we are simply proposing to resume the negotiations of 2022 that Ukraine interrupted in the Beest of the West’,” said Alexander Baunov, a senior partner.
Putin’s decision to miss the conversations continues to an attempt at the last launch of Brazilian president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to convince him to go to an improvised stop in Moscow.
However, there is no meeting in person toke place. Instead, Lula arrived in Putin on the phone, said a statement issued by the Brazilian leader’s office.
