Islanders have extensive possibilities with defensive room this offseason

Here is a bet that could be really safer than Aleksander Barkov winning a second Selke trophy: the islanders won with nine defenders on their list to start next season.

Which means that Thursday in Columbus, Ohio, when five of its six blue coatings in the final of the season were pending free agents, it was almost surely the swan song for part of the group that includes Noah Dobson, Scott Perunovich, Mike Reilly, Reilly, Reilly, Reilly.

Apart from Dobson, which is a well -known merchandise, the match against the Blue Jackets amounted to a final audition for that group, with Adam Pelech and Ryan Pulock retained by a non -meaning 82 game and Alexander Romanov Game Game Game Lame.

Romanov is also a restricted free agent pending, and even Scott Mayfield, the only defender in the alignment of the islanders on Thursday that is not in an expired agreement, with five remaining seasons in his contract, cannot be treated as 100 percent safe after frequent healthy scratches by the section, which could take the islanders to consider a purchase.

And, because all that is not enough, you also have to consider Isaiah George.

The 21 -year -old was sent at the end of January after playing 33 games for the islands, but showed more than enough to believe that he will have a good shot to make the list out of the camp next season.

From the trio that was brought when an excess or injuries hit the islanders at the end of January: Deangelo, Boqvist and Perunovich – Deangelo, a pending ufa, has the best to return next season. He is the only one that has stayed in the alignment every night and has been at the top during most of that period, averaging 23:26 while accumulating 19 points in 36 games.

That was enough to put Deangelo in a draw with Doobson by the best score defender of the islanders this season per game, and it would not be a surprise for the player and the team of each mind for another season after the islanders withdrew the character of the defenders of the discouraged islanders that he has paid so far, paid.

Dobson and Romanov, both slopes of RFA, should also return and in long -term agreements, thought that a reverse for a season for Dobson combined with what could be a conducive summer environment to offer sheets at least one small degree of Doubte or Doubte.

Since Boqvist and Perunovich are also restricted, the islanders have some control over these situations, but they could run out of points quickly.

Pulock and Pelech, their two best paid defenders, both have clauses without trade and long -term offers in the hand, so it is difficult to see them go anywhere. And while it is possible to go in another direction from Dobson and Romanov, it would not make sense to get away from two 25 -year -old defenders who should be in the first four of the islanders, if it is not their couple of years to come.

He launches George and Deangelo also to the mixture and, suddenly, the islanders have six seven full spaces.

Thank you

If the islanders buy Mayfield (or find an exchange for him, they thought he would like to require an asset and he has a complete non -commerce clause), he could open a place for one of Reilly, Boqvist or Perpreehere Agenary.

The islanders often used boqvist as a specialist in power of power, but the inheritance did little to impact a unit of five against four that was terrible throughout the season, regardless of staff. If the restricted free agent wants to stay as a seventh defender, that could make sense, but it is difficult to see him as a player of every night.

Perunovich, who played the last two games of the season after being healthy from a less-4 performance against the Rangers on February 25, probably goes out the door.

The same goes for Reilly, who was an inspiring stories season after returning from cardiac surgery, but could not stay in the alignment and whose offensive role was more or less filled by Deangelo.
