Man held captive in Waterbury, Connecticut, house of horrors for 20 years breaks silence

Connecticut’s man whose stepmother allegedly kept him captive in a house of horrors for more than two decades has published his first public statement since he was released in February.

Passing only by “S” in a statement obtained by News 8, the 32-year-old man had only 68 pounds when he intentionally set fire to his room and was rescued for the first time.

“Please call me ‘S.” This is not the name given when I was born.

I am a survivor of more than 20 years of captivity and domestic abuse. I was a hero prisoner in my house from the moment I was homework out of the age of 11 until two months ago at age 31, when I turned on the fire that helped me to free myself.

Today I am talking about the process of claiming my life and saying my opinion about how my story is told.

The stepmother of the man, Kimberly Sullivan, declared innocent of assault and kidnapping charges.
He allegedly kept him locked in his room for more than 20 years, and the duration of that time hunger and abused him.
