Uniformed Fire Officers Association endorses Mark Levine for NYC comptroller

The influential Fire Union of the Big Apple presented her support for the president of the County of Behhattan, Mark Levine, for the Comptroller of the city on Sunday, separating from another powerful Labor Group FDNY who has backed her democratic opponent in the race.

The Association of Uniformed firefighters (UFO) said that Levine’s experience gave the advantage of Councilor Justin Brannan, which led to the June primary between the two.

“Mark Levine’s history of fiscal responsibility, transparency and defense of the first to respond makes it exceptionally qualified to supervise the city’s finances as a comptroller,” said UFO president James Brosi, an attached head of FDNY, in a statement.

“His deep understanding of the challenges faced by our members and their proven ability to implement effective solutions are exactly what New York City needs in its next fiscal administrator.”

Support for Levine occurs a month after the Uniformed Fire Association, which is composed of 20,000 members, backed Brannan in the Comptroller’s career.

Duel endorsements are critical because the Comptroller’s office supervises the pension funds of the city workers as part of their role as the Fiscal Control Agency for the Great Apple.

Levine, who has been president of Manhattan County since 2022, promoted support in a statement on Sunday, saying that she was “incredible honest” to have the support of the UFOA, which is composed of more than 7,500 members.

“These brave men and women put their lives on the line every day to protect New Yorkers. As a comptroller, I will fight as hard for them as they fight for us, that means defending the resources and protections they need to do their work email.

Brannan and Levine hope to replace the current comptroller Brad Lander, who is letting the opportunity to apply for the mayor in a crowded primary.

Primary is scheduled for June 24.
