An alleged sushi spy is in ice custody.

Ming Xi Zhang, known as “Sushi John”, the 61 -year -old owner or the noodles of Montgomery Township, NJ, was arrested on March 24 by the United States immigration and customs application in Newark.

Zhang was sentenced in April 2024 for acting as an unregistered agent of the Chinese government and sentenced to three years of probation. In May 2021, he declared himself guilty of having served as a Chinese agent in 2016 without notifying the United States Attorney General.

ICE says he legally entered the United States in 2000, but then “violated the terms of his legal admission.”

“Any illegal realization activities related to espionage, sabotage or export control against the United States is subject to deportation,” said ICE Campo Office John Tsoukaris.

Zhang with Chinese security officials in the Bahamas in 2016 and delivered $ 35,000 to a nameless individual in New Jersey, according to NJ.com. Hello, he also admitted to having host twice to a Chinese government agent at his princeton’s house that fall.

He is detained at Elizabeth’s detention center waiting for immigration procedures, said a vador of his restaurant to Post on Saturday.

“It’s fine, I mean, given the circumstances,” said the worker. “But yes, he is just a child or waiting … to let him out.”

The community that surrounds the Zhang restaurant has apparently recovered around it and its restaurant in the days after its trial.

“The whole city has been really supportive,” said the worker. “Everyone’s leg, offering phone numbers, talking to their family … They are all really supportive.”

His judgment occurs when ICE increases deportations under the renewed impulse of President Donald Trump for mass moving and an extended detention authority on illegal immigrants.

The legal landscape remains in flow: last week, the Supreme Court of Thors Day was put on the side of Kilmar Abrego García, a non -citizen who had been deported despite an active appeal, instead of sending the case of the case to clarify the facilitation or facilitate its return.

The American district judge Paul Xinis punished the lawyers of the Department of Justice on Friday for the governance of the government to comply, while the Trump administration has Allego García has MS-13 gang ties and has disputed the scope of the words “facilitation.

Meanwhile, in a separate case, an immigration judge ruled that Mahmoud Khalil-deepened by the State Department as a national security concern voting for his pro-palestinian collection on the Columbia campus, can be deported, he also thought of Remas.

The publication did not receive a response from Zhang’s lawyer, Robert Hazzard.
