Canada has invited the heir prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed Bin Salman to the next summit of the G7 leaders in Alberta, as Global News has known.

It is not yet known if Bin Salman has accepted the invitation. He did not attend the Summit of the G7 last year in Italy despite being invited there too.

Canada’s invitation marks the third time in recent days that Prime Minister Mark Carney and his government have communicated with leaders from countries whose relations with Canada have been tensioned.

The leaders of the world’s largest economies will meet in Cananaskis for three days of conversations that on Sunday early. It is a common practice for the host country to invite other world leaders to the annual summit to discuss global issues.

Saudi Arabia is seen as a key player in the diplomacy of the Middle East. It has a bone that supports efforts to ensure fire in Gaza, where Israel continues to carry out a military offensive against Hamas that has created a humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian territory.

The kingdom has also organized conversations that involve the United States to find the end of the Russian war in Ukraine, a conflict that is expected to be among the main topics at the summit.

However, the Human Rights History of Saudi Arabia has been criticized by Canada and independent defense groups, despite the declared efforts of Bin Salman to improve women’s rights.

The country remembered its ottawa ambassador and expelled Canada’s envoy in 2018 after the world issues of Canada asked Saudi Arabia to “release of immediacy” activists of women’s rights and democracy.

That diplomat splashed months before the murder of the Washington Post Jamal Khashoggi journalist in a Saudi consulate in Türkiye. Saudi Arabia has denied the findings of American intelligence agencies that Bin Salman had approved his murder.

Canada sanctioned in boxes of Saudi citizens linked to the murder of Khashoggi.

Canada and Saudi Arabia, defrosting relations in 2023 by welcoming the new ambassadors to the capitals of others. The national Saudi Araba airline also resumed flights to Canada after a five -year suspension.

Before the diplomatic dispute, the liberal government had temporarily stopped the sales of the arms to Saudi Arabia about reports that light armored vehicles made in Canadian in the country were being used in a bloody conflict in Yemen.

Bin Salman attended several events duration of the tour of US President Donald Trump through the Middle East last month. Trump sprouted about the heir prince duration of that trip, calling him “my friend” and praising his efforts to modernize the country.

Carney personally invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the G7 summit last week, which Modi has accepted. The measure has angry the national Sijs in Canada, even within the Liberal Caucus of Carney, which indicates the accusations that the Modi government was involved in the murder of a SIJ activist leader in British Columbia in 2023.

The RCMP continues to investigate what has said that they are reports of intimidation and violence against the SIJS by the Indian agents on Canadian soil.

Carney defended Modi’s invitation on Friday and avoided saying if he believes that Modi was involved in the murder of Hardep Singh Nijar, referring to the ongoing “legal process”.

Carney also spoke last week with Chinese prime minister, Li Qiang, and Prime Minister’s office said the two leaders agreed regular communication channels between Ottawa and Beijing, despite disputes over trade and human rights.

China officials are not expected to attend the G7 summit next week.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed on Monday that she had accepted an invitation to attend the summit.

It will mark the first time that the leaders of Canada, Mexico and the United States are together since Trump launched a multiple commercial war on the Fentanyl Flow and the automotive sector of North America.

Negotiations on the Mexico Mexico Agreement in Canada-Unit (Cusma) are expected to begin next year, but Trump’s tariffs have led Canada to seek a bilateral economic and safety agreement with the United States.
