Competitive proposals indicate that Ukraine and Russia remain very separate on how to start a peace process while competing for the goodwill of the president of the United States, Donald Trump.

“We hope Russia confirms a high fire, complete, durable and reliable, starting tomorrow, May 12, and Ukraine is ready to meet,” Zenskyy said in a statement on social networks on Sunday.

He called Putin’s proposal “a positive sign that the Russians have finally begun to consider ending the war.”

“The entire world has been waiting for this for a long time. And the first step to really end any war is a high fire,” he said.

Maria Zakharova, spokesman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Ukraine had “read badly” Putin’s statement. “Putin said it very clearly: negotiations on the initial reasons [for the war] First, then a conversation about a high fire, “Newswire Tass told State.

Russia’s demands include a bar on the NATO membership for Ukraine and the recognition of Putin’s annexation of four regions of the southeast, as well as the end of Western military support for kyiv. A return to Istanbul’s conversations would also involve Ukraine to the neutrality of the Pleedition, accept the limits in its military and accept Moscow’s demands to protect the Russian language in the country.

Ukraine has said that these terms would end their existence as a modern state.

The Russian counterofferte is a rejection of the 30 -day fire proposal made on Saturday after the leaders of France, Germany, Poland and the United Kingdom visited kyiv to meet Zenskyy.

The European partners agreed that if Russia rejected a high total and unconditional fire of 30 days, stricter sanctions would be adopted against banking and energy sectors, Elysée said on Saturday night.

The French president, Emmanuel Macron, told journalists on Sunday that Putin’s response was “a first movement, but it is not enough,” he added that it was a means of “not answering” the proposals of Alto El Fuego.

“We have to stand firm with the Americans to say that the high fire is unconditional and then we can discuss the rest,” he said from a night train in Przemyśl, Poland, after starting from kyiv.

“It is unacceptable for Ukrainians because they cannot accept parallel discussions while they are continuously bombarded.”

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk also urged Russia to accept a high immediate fire.
